Ground Handling Innovations Shine at Airport Show 2024

The 23rd edition of the Airport Show showcased groundbreaking technologies and services in ground handling, cargo movements, and airport operations, emphasizing agility and sustainability.
More than 30 new innovators joined the event for the first time, drawing significant attention from trade visitors and stakeholders. Ground handling service providers and air navigation service providers received an overwhelming response, with Global Air Navigation Services (GANS) highlighting its capabilities in Heliport Facilities and Helipad Systems Supplies and Installation.


The GSE Zone, in partnership with dnata, featured cutting-edge ground handling equipment. dnata showcased Mallaghan’s advanced catering trucks, equipped with EURO 6 technology, which reduce emissions by 80% compared to EURO 5 standards and cut permitted particulate mass by 66%. This aligns with dnata’s commitment to environmental responsibility and engineering excellence.
dnata also introduced the ‘Tisabas Operation,’ a folding baggage conveyor system designed to prevent back injuries and reduce damage to aircraft and baggage. Additionally, dnata displayed a towbarless electric tractor for towing aircraft.
Smiths Detection presented the SDX 10060 XDi, an advanced security screening system using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) to accurately identify molecular structures, improving object detection and enhancing security and operational efficiency.
The Airport Show 2024 hosted a panel discussion titled “Elevating Passenger Experience: Investing in Innovation to Capture Traveler Hearts.” Industry experts emphasized the importance of passenger experience as a key differentiator in the competitive travel industry and highlighted innovation as the driving force behind enhancing this experience.
Moderated by Dr. Nikhil Kilpady, the session featured insights from Nagy Abu Zeid of Oman Airports, Alpros Mohammad Hamzouq of Airport International Group, Anurag Shandilya of Noida International Airport, Ismail Issa of Emirates Group, and Ioana Apintei of AirportLabs. The panelists discussed the need for innovative, passenger-centric solutions leveraging biometrics, AI, IoT, and seamless travel technologies to meet evolving traveler expectations and improve overall passenger experiences.
